What is Hairline Transplant?

If you’re complaining about hair loss at the front area and searched the internet, you’ve probably encountered pages about “hairline transplant” as well as “hair transplant”. You may wonder whether they are 2 different types of surgeries.

Reality is hairline transplant is just a special form of hair transplant surgery. In hairline transplant, transplant area is very specifically at the front. This happens mostly at Type M, and sometimes at Type A hair loss (see graft calculator for illustration). Women also have hair loss more intense at the front area.

Another common feature is that the rest of the hair is fairly dense. In other words, the hairline is receding from the front. Related to this, hairline restoration is the primary concern in hairline transplant surgery.

Main aspects of hairline transplant can be described as below:

  1. Natural-looking hairline: Frontline is the most visible area of your hair. Transplant must be very-natural looking. This requires expertise and extra attention. Common mistakes are transplanting the frontline as a straight line or transplanting on top of muscled areas (thus your hair moves with eyebrows).

  2. Dense transplant: As rest of hair is usually dense, a dense hair transplant is aimed

  3. Hair transplant technique used: Both DHI and FUE techniques are possible. However, DHI is preferred whenever possible because it is easier to have a denser and natural-looking transplant. DHI also makes no-shave transplant possible. We don’t perform FUT at all, as it is an older technique

  4. Donor area: Donor area is same as all other hair transplants. It is back of the head

  5. Ideal candidates:

    1. Hair loss is mostly in the front area, e.g. receding hairline

    2. Rest of the hair is fairly dense. Thus, donor can be used mostly/totally for the front

    3. Age is 25+, so that overall hair loss pattern is well understood

Hairline transplant for receding hairline
Hairline transplant is a subtype of hair transplant in which hair transplant is very specifically performed at the front

Booking a hairline transplant is not different from booking other hair transplants:

  1. Send your pictures for online assessment. Specifically mention that you’re looking for a hair transplant to the front

  2. Receive results of your assessment in one business day. Discuss all open questions with your patient consultant

  3. Agree on the day and book your visit to Istanbul, Turkey

As with other types of hair transplants, we offer an all-inclusive transplant package that covers all significant costs except flights.
