Sapphire FUE Hair Transplant
Advantages of Sapphire FUE compared to classic FUE
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a significant improvement compared to earlier techniques like Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). More natural results can be achieved, and FUE is among the most common hair transplant techniques nowadays. Standard approach is to use steel blades for making cuts on the scalp during the operation.
Still, even better results can be achieved via using Sapphire blades instead of steel ones. Sapphire is a precious gemstone. It has antibacterial properties; scalp tissue infection risk is minimized. Moreover, with Sapphire blades, it is possible to make finer cuts in target (transplant) area. This results in less bleeding, smaller scars and faster healing. This also means that scalp will be smoother after the healing period.
Another important advantage of using Sapphire is to have more natural looking results. Ultimately density, direction and angle of the cuts determine the way transplanted hair looks. With Sapphire blades, it is possible to have denser as well as more natural looking transplants.
Donors are taken from back of the head between 2 ears. For exceptional cases when there are not sufficient grafts in the scalp, facial or chest hair can be used as donors.
Using Facial and Body Hair as Donors
Naturally, beard or chest hair is not as dense as hair in the back of head. Moreover, due to visual concerns, not too much grafts are taken from these areas. All-in-all, beard and chest can contribute 500 grafts each.
Beard donors are taken from neck area below chin. After the operation, no scars are left.
Donors from beard and chest are mixed with hair from scalp, instead of transplanting to a single area. Thus, a homogeneous transplantation is achieved.
Maximum Number of Grafts with FUE
With taking donors from face and chest, 5500-6000 grafts can be transplanted. This might require 2 sessions, however. These 2 sessions are typically separated by 4-6 months. That being said, every case is unique. Just send pictures from target and donor areas for a detailed assessment.
Direct Hair Implant (DHI)
What Makes DHI Different?
DHI is also known as Choi technique due to the special equipment used. It can be described as a refinement of FUE technique. In DHI technique, specialized Choi pens are used, and extracted hair follicles are directly transplanted into target area without making channel incisions. All-in-all, DHI is considered to be the most premium technique due to following advantages:
• No need to shave target area. (Donor area is still shaved as FUE)
• Minimal bleeding, fast healing
• Highest level of denseness and natural looks
Due to avoidance of shaving, DHI is always is preferred for transplants for women.
From surgeons’ perspective, DHI is harder to perform. It takes more time and requires more attention. Related to this, it is more costly.
Not all cases are suitable for DHI. Please contact us and send your pictures so that we can assess your case.
DHI or Sapphire FUE?
Both Sapphire FUE and DHI are among the most advanced hair transplant techniques. Each has its own advantages. As each hair loss case is unique, it is always necessary to make a detailed assessment to determine number of grafts and the preferred technique.
Second Hair Transplant
You had a hair transplant in the past and now you want to have once more? A common cause is usage of FUT technique in the previous transplant.
Hair transplant operation can be performed more than once, and satisfactory results are achieved. Both DHI and FUE techniques can be applied, depending on the case.
Since part of the donors (from back of head) are used in the previous transplant, there are less available for a second one. Our ultimate goal is to have a natural look, also at the back of the head. Thus, we don’t take excessive number of grafts from the same area. Instead, we turn to beard or chest as donor sources, if required.
Beard and Mustache Transplant
Facial hair transplants are also possible. Head, face or chest can be donor areas. Totally natural results are achieved.
Both partial and full beard transplant is possible. In case of a full beard transplant, up to 4000 grafts can be transplanted.
Hair Transplant for Women
Hair thinning or receding hairline might be observed in women as well. These problems are addressed by DHI technique. Use of DHI means no shaving of target area; only donor area at the back of head between 2 ears is shaved.
